3.0: Visual Welding Inspector
3.1: Welding Inspector
3.2: Senior Welding Inspector
⦁ 3.2.1: Sr. Welding Inspector Without Radiographic Interpretations
⦁ 3.2.2: Sr. Welding Inspector With Radiographic Interpretation
New Exam Pattern and Effective from Passing Marks:
Theory Part 1. Welding Inspection Theory
⦁ 80 multiple-choice questions. Time allowed: 2 hours.
Theory Part 2: WPS and welder certifications
⦁ 40 multiple-choice questions. Time allowed 1 hour 30 minutes.
Practical Part 1.
⦁ Inspection of eight examination specimens to a code provided by the Test Centre. Time allowed: 1 hour 30 minutes.
Effective From: The new exam pattern is effective from June 2024
Passing Marks: The pass mark for all parts is 70%.
Period of Validity of CSWIP Certificates:
The certificate is valid for five years from the date of completion of the initial examination and may be renewed for a further five years on application. Types of renewal;
⦁ 5 year renewal: Proof of experience
⦁ 10 year renewal: Recertification Exam
Eligibility for Exam:
Minimum Experience: 3 Years
Or
CSWIP Visual Welding Inspector for a minimum of 2 years
Or
CSWIP Welding Instructor or CSWIP Welding Foreman/Supervisor for a minimum of one year.
Mature Candidate:
Formal training prior to the exam is not required for mature candidates
Who are mature candidates?
At least ten years of continuous experience in welding inspection duties
or
Candidates who hold an International Welding Inspector Basic Level Diploma with two years continuous experience in welding inspection duties
Unsuccessful Candidate:
Retest Opportunity:
⦁ Candidates who fail to obtain a certificate can attempt a retest on the parts of the examination where they did not succeed.
⦁ The retest must be completed within one year of the initial examination.
⦁ If the retest is not completed within this timeframe, candidates will have to retake the full examination.
Waiting Period:
⦁ The retest cannot be taken within 30 days of the previous examination unless additional approved training is undertaken beforehand.
Unsuccessful Retest:
⦁ If a candidate is unsuccessful in the retest, they will be required to retake the full approved course followed by the full examination.
5 year renewal:
The certificate holder has to demonstrate that they have maintained their competence by:
⦁ Providing evidence of continuous work activity in welding inspection.
⦁ Providing evidence that the holder has kept up to date in welding technology.
⦁ Providing evidence of satisfactory visual acuity in accordance with the rules of CSWIP.
10 year renewal:
- The certificate holder will have to take a recertification which will include the following:
- Multiple choice general paper.
- Practical visual inspection of eight examination specimens.
